'about me'!
My name's Rob, I'm a
38yr-old married man reliving part of my childhood. Some of my happiest
memories are of the Christmas my brother and I got a Scalextric set and
spent the entire holiday taking turns to race against Dad! Later that year
he floored the loft and bought a huge box of second hand track and we were
set. I spent so many hours racing and trying to tweak and tune the cars,
and that was it - I was hooked!
Fast forward 20 years
or so and I'm browsing in my local model shop when I spot a rather nice
Joest Porsche by a company I've never heard of - Fly. So I bought it, took
it home and watched it annihilate my Scalextric cars. A few days later I
was back for a GT1 '98, which was even better and I was hooked again.
So then I went online
and discovered I'm not the only one reliving a few childhood memories, or
just having fun with slotcars. I was amazed at the amount of information
available, and at the skill and dedication of some people. In short I was
inspired.
Since then I've bought
more cars, floored the loft and started building my track and started this site.
About two years ago I moved the track out of the loft and took over our
garage instead, and then a year or so later moved from plastic track to a
routed wooden track. You could say it's kind of evolving! I've also
started building a few kits, re-spraying cars, even attempting to make my
own decals - there's so much about this hobby that I'm enjoying.
I try to update the
site as often as possible, either with a new review or progress with my
track or anything else that seems useful. I've had a lot of fun
building the site - it's been educational, frustrating, annoying,
fulfilling but most of all enjoyable - and I'm still learning and still
having fun. I will try to keep things fun
and informative, and I'll add new features / sections / whatever if they are
requested or if they occur to me!
Finally I want to say
'thanks' to those of you who have e-mailed me or left feedback through the
site. Your support is appreciated
and any feedback is always welcome.
Rob
PS: Some people have
asked about the relationship with Robbie's Hobbies. Robbie's Hobbies is a
business entirely owned and operated by another chap called Rob, who has
been kind enough to sponsor and support some of my reviews etc. I wish I
had my own slotcar business, but I don't!
